Here are the pictures from my ER visit back on March 30th.
Apparently I didn’t blog about that trip.
On the 29th (yes my birthday) I had started vomiting some dark brown gunk (coffee ground emesis = old blood) it had subsided after a while so went on to sleep since I had the endoscopy coming up the next week. I had to go to my primary doctor’s office Friday (30th) and had started vomiting there again, the bright red blood along with the coffee ground stuff was coming back up so called Sullivan’s office. He was out of town that week and my nurse practitioner I see was off that day so the nurse checked with one of the other NPs there. They called back shortly thereafter telling me to call 911 or go to the ER.
I get to the ER, got taken back to acute care area had blood transfusion band put on, blood taken for lab work and cross matching and an IV put in. I was given IV Nexium, Ondansetron, some steroid and Bentyl. After they spent 15 minutes trying to find the top part of my chart I was taken to xray and had abdominal xrays taken. This revealed what appeared to be a bowel obstruction, the ER doctor I had on my case told me I needed to be admitted but he was going to get someone from my group there to check it out. I was given dilaudid at this time.
Eventually a doctor from my group showed up and said that it appeared to be a pocket of air in my intestines and that I would most likely not need to be admitted. He said he was going to call Sullivan’s office to see what the other doctor there said since Sullivan was out of town. I was given 1000ml of saline to be infused over 1 hour. Given more dilaudid, around 3:30 my mom was finally able to get to the hospital as she was in Johnson City having their car worked on. The doctor told me that since it just appeared to be air and that I wasn’t vomiting anymore that it was up to me if I wanted to be admitted, I chose not to and would see Bobbie the following Monday. From there the story continues in the post linked above.
