Ok had my EGD done today. After a few hour wait (Appointment was 10am but they called me in around 7:30) I finally got taken back to procedure room and was put under conscious sedation wtih Fentanyl and Midazolam.
A small bowel biopsy was done, they also dilated my esophagus to help me swallow better. There were signs of Gastritis (inflammation of the stomach) as well as a Hiatal Hernia (which I had surgery to fix in August of 2005). They performed cauterization on my LES tp help treat my reflux which was also noted.
Suprisingly they didn’t biopsy any of the Barrett’s areas of my esophagus to check for changes to the abnormal cell structure but no big deal since I’m sure it hasn’t become malignant yet.
Gave me a list (I’ve got several dozen copies of said list for those interested) of the NSAIDs I have to avoid to keep my stomach from being any more damaged and causing it to bleed more.
Also received an iron injection to help with my anemia so hopefully it’ll bring my HGB and such back up to a normal range.
Anyway I’m going to nap for a little bit so I can sleep off the rest of the sedative drugs for awhile.
