I recently upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress. This should fix some bugs, adds several new features and the like.

A list of new things in WordPress 2.6 can be found here and some more things here.

Also, thanks to Cory, I finally was able to locate the slowness. Apparently after awhile the mysql server gets a bit bogged down, thus causing the slowness you’ve seen with my blog. It had also started to affect him so decided to restart mysql and things dramatically improved.

Well I decided to upgrade Wordpress to the latest version today. I was unsure if I wanted to upgrade at this time as I worried some of my plugins wouldn’t work or my site would break completely.

Thankfully the upgrade seems to have went well, all my plugins still work (Did need to upgrade one or two of them but no big deal). I hope this might help the issue of speed when it comes to my site. The problem doesn’t affect any of the other sites I have setup on my server except this one. I’ll get it figured out one day I’m sure.

Good job to the WP team, I had played around with the nightly releases for awhile on one of my home servers and really liked it. Plus it came out on my birthday on Saturday so it was like a birthday present.

Well I’ve done some stuff to the site/server lately.

First off, I get a 4/5 on built with for “its utilization of web technologies which includes analytics, frameworks, syndication and document formatting“. I’d like to get a 5/5 eventually.

I’ve also installed WordPress Super Cache. This should help the speed issues I’ve had with my site, at least I hope it does. I’ve noticed as well as a few others that the load time has been reduced a bit so hopefully that’ll help keep readers from fleeing my site due to slow load times.

Also thanks to Donncha, I decided to install XCache to go along with eAccelerator to help with my site as well as several others I host on my server. So far it seems to be doing a good job.

Unfortunately, I did run into a problem with XCache, after building with the source and installing (and fixing the paths a bit) the XCache admin page (and XCache WP plugin) complained that it wasn’t loaded. I eventually had to move the Zend config in php.ini to after the XCache config, all seems to be working now though. Hopefully that may help some others who have installed it and are experiencing the same problem.

I’m eventually planning to upgrade to PHP 5, I’m still at 4.4.2 which is doing just fine but a few applications I’ve been wanting to try only seem to be compatible with 5. I’m not really up to the task of upgrading it (Apache is also something that I need to update to 1.3.39 or something newer), but I fear that I may end up just breaking everything. It took a lot of confidence for me to rid myself of the RPM deal a year or two ago and install everything from source, it was worth it though as it provided some learning for me.

Anyway, hopefully things will be a bit faster, less load on the server, and if something ever gets slashdotted or dugg, the site might just hold up.

Well yesterday we got my new full sized bed in. After spending the morning and part of the afternoon moving dressers, tables, and tons of assorted junk (threw out a desk and a ton more of old magazines, papers, and stuff I have no use for Wednesday or Thursday) and taking an occasional break we got it moved up here.

Unfortunately I have maybe a 1-1 1/2 feet of room between this desk and my bed but enough room for my chair and the cabinet behind me, I’ll eventually get that fixed I guess. The bed is pretty comfy and all but its also pretty high off the ground, the top of it is about 3 feet from the floor. Plus plenty of room for me to roll around on or such I guess.

Talked to Angel today as usual, he had to do some stuff before he got on at 11:00 but finally was able to around 13:45. We talked for a bit about some various things. He got his check cashed and all and the travel place he went to was closed supposedly because the owners house burned down from the horrible SoCal fires. He said he was going to get them from somewhere else yesterday so hopefully he’ll have good news for me this morning.

I’ve been feeling rather poorly the past few days, health wise, emotionally is always down in the depths except for those rare bits of good news/good things that happen. Anyway, I had been feeling weak on Thursday and headache and body aches and some coughing. Yesterday morning around 03:00 I was up and retching my guts out, quite a bit of BRB (Bright Red Blood). I’m thinking the blood is from either my sinuses but more than likely another Mallory-Weiss tear but it seems to have healed up.

Friday I just woke up sore, eyes burning/hurting, head hurting, nose draining into throat, throat sore, coughing like mad, coughing junk up, weakness, etc. Just generally everything, including right ear seems a bit blocked up and hurtful sometimes. I’d sure like to know what I’ve got this time and get it taken care of ASAP.

My abdomen has been cramping pretty bad yesterday and today, had a bit of it Thursday as well but not like it is doing right now. I’m placing my bet on the chinese food I ate at both days, buuut I also had some super tasty popcorn balls and some other junk I’m probably allergic to.

Anyway that’s all, I have to try to get some sleep so I can wake up in time to chat with Angel. Then I guess I’ll pick up some more stuff in my room and try to make it more presentable than it has been though it’s looking much better now than it did.

I’ll upload some new bed and clean room pictures in this post later today or something.

I’ve also upgraded WordPress to 2.3.1, you can find the changes here. I also added a search hi-light plugin, so now when you search it should hightlight the words you searched for.

Well this week has been bland and such as usual.

Angel and I are still not getting to talk much (if at all), didn’t to talk any Wednesday as he had to help at his parents office then get to school after or something. Hopefully this crap will end and we can talk again and get his trip out here planned and stuff. I think quite a few of the letters he sent out over the past how long ever are finally on their way as they were actually being hijacked but he found them and got them sent he said.

I had a really bad migraine Monday night I think, ended up going to the ED and getting a shot. I’ve been trying not to do that a lot and doing fairly good. The migraines are still around though, they’ve lightened up in frequency but when they hit they’re pretty bad.

We’ve been cleaning out my room this week, most of the other side of my room is clearer than it had been and eventually can get most of the stuff in the middle of the room pushed back there. Got rid of one of my old desks today too, was fun to take a hammer to it. Now just gotta move a dresser at the foot of my bed (and get rid of it, thats what I want to do as I have no use for it). Also got all the books and stuff from beside my bed and such cleared out, now remains is my nightstand thing and the cabinet I have behind me then my new bed I’m getting (full size this time) might fit.

I’m hoping to get a recliner up here to go at bottom of bed for easier sitting and just for guests or myself to watch tv or things like that.

WordPress has been updated to the latest beta and will be upgraded to next stable release in a day or two. I’ve also added support for Gravatars, so go and sign up for one if you haven’t already and upload some pictures for your avatar and it’ll eventually display beside your comments you leave.

Currently they’re not displaying for some reason in the comments right now, but I hope to get it figured out.

I guess that’s all for now, time for bed so I can get up early tomorrow.
